Been A While…

22 Mar

I’ve been wanting to write for a while but fell into that trap that nothing was good enough to share or write about. Enough of that nonsense! To give myself a boost back into posting, here’s a Day In The Life from Sunday. It’s short, sweet and to the point. Petite, actually. 🙂

Pretty during Lent

Early morning Sexton duties. I like how pretty the church looks during Lent.

Neither rain, nor snow, nor sickness

Of course, poor Ella doesn’t care. The girlie is sick and running a fever from a double ear infection. 😦

Prepping

Back home, breakfast is started.

Traditional Sunday Breakfast

Hot cereal in Pyrex bowls. Traditional Sunday breakfast since 2010.

Sickies

We then spend literally 3 hours like this. I get quite a bit accomplished on Ella’s sweater and the kids absorb exorbitant amounts of Blue’s Clues while both ran fevers.

Multi Tasking

Lunch time arrives and naptime follows.

Current Bane

While the kids sleep, I discover that I spent 3 hours knitting Ella’s sweater incorrectly. So I shed a small tear, rip it out, and switch to my other work in progress.

Knitting Help

Chatting it up with .

Chocolate Face

Miles wakes up before big sister and promptly eats half of my chocolate square.

Banana Cake (again)

Frosting

Ella wakes up a while later and we make banana cake (again).

Button Collection

Sorting my button collection is a new way I seek my zen.

Frozen Food Night

Sundays are our work Fridays AND Aaron doesn’t get home until exactly bedtime, so it’s frozen food night. Mama needs a break.

Late Night Huddle

After bedtime taking almost 2 hours, I huddle around a cup of tea while indulging in 1999 teen angst (hello, Roswell!).

Goodnight.

Finally Back

26 Sep

My computer is up and running. Hooray!

I’ve been toying with some topics to write on but decided I didn’t want to get too serious right off the bat. Instead, here’s a video version of a Day In The Life.

(If you’re on Google Reader, you’ll have to come directly to my blog to see the video)

Day In The Life: Last Days of Summer

17 Aug

IMG_9023

Our day began with self hygiene.

IMG_9030

Presentable.

IMG_9037

Meal planning. I. Loathe. It.

IMG_9041

IMG_9042

IMG_9046

Knitting every moment I get.

IMG_9047

Pleased to introduce you to my new daughter, Helen. She goes with us everywhere.

IMG_9054

Helen even gets adjusted at the chiropractor!

IMG_9056

IMG_9061

IMG_9069

Off again.

IMG_9070

Four last things to get that our normal grocery store didn’t have.

IMG_9072

Ella (and Helen) didn’t make it through just getting one.

So we three girls wait in the car while the dudes get the rest.

IMG_9081

Paper towels have many uses!

IMG_9093

I did many things during nap/quiet time.

IMG_9095

Like sugaring lemon peels for lemonade.

IMG_9102

Painting nails.

IMG_9104

And more knitting.

FxCam_1281992292251

Little man wakes up from his epic length nap.

IMG_9109

IMG_9110

IMG_9113

They scream entertain each other while I finish prepping dinner.

IMG_9117

They harass the mail man.

IMG_9123

Naan fresh off the grill. Om nom nom.

FxCam_1281994364143

Hard at play while I slave over a hot open flame.

IMG_9124

Our feast. Fresh produce, hummus, naan, homemade lemonade. I lovingly refer to it as “Hippy Dippy Dinner”.

IMG_9125

IMG_9129

After two grueling hours of attempted bedtime, I’m ready to pound out my frustration.

On week 3, day 1 of Couch To Five K!

IMG_9133

Last 1st birthday cupcake, aleve, and coconut water finish off my night.

Sleep Saga Ditl

5 May

Another day in the life of us. Not so typical, since we were on our way up to the big city to see a specialist for Ella’s sleep issues. We just arrived home tonight, so I’m hoping to be able to write about our experience (and answers!!!!) tomorrow.

IMG_8118

I look sleepless because I am. I have been for 2.5 years.

IMG_8129

No amount of teeth brushing or face cleansing completely washing away the fact it’s 5:30am

IMG_8123

Little miss is pretty disgruntled by the time as well. Ironic, considering she’s pretty much always up by 4am.

IMG_8131

Breakfast on the road seemed to help the disposition of all.

IMG_8136

IMG_8138

IMG_8140

After a bit of stress, our tickets are spit out at us and we head outside to wait.

IMG_8146

IMG_8152

IMG_8160

IMG_8161

IMG_8165IMG_8166

We get settled in.

IMG_8171

Built in entertainment.

IMG_8183

IMG_8191

IMG_8192

IMG_8193

IMG_8194

So much travel gives poor Ella ants in her pants. Daddy must entertain.

IMG_8195

IMG_8196

We finally arrive at our hotel.

IMG_8198

Head out again to nix a craving.

IMG_8199

IMG_8202

Then we meet up with new friends for lunch!

IMG_8203

Elizabeth and her adorable children brought us hungry travelers lunch!

IMG_8211

The girls bond.

IMG_8206

Miles watches on with amusement.

IMG_8213

After throwing my back out, Aaron wears both children the mile to the hospital.

IMG_8214

IMG_8217

We opted to participate in a family food allergy study since we had nothing to do that afternoon…

IMG_8218

IMG_8219

Head size burritos were picked up for dinner.

IMG_8222

When she sleeps, this is how she does it.

IMG_8221

Baby is with me in the other bed and I shortly all join them in the land of nod.

A Day In Our Life (aka a DITL)

14 Jan

O'dark early aka 5:30am

It’s what time and why are we up?

IMG_7305

5:30am is MUCH to early to try and explain to Ella WHY she isn’t successful when standing up to potty like Daddy and why Mommy just can’t fix it.

IMG_7311

I decide to run the risk of showering while being the only adult home with both children awake .

IMG_7298

They seemed to survive.

IMG_7334

I certainly feel more human and have a happy moment when I put on my outfit found completely at the second hand shop.

IMG_7314

We have a quick breakfast.

IMG_7318

Then I take this disaster…

IMG_7341

And turn it around.

IMG_7337

There’s a bit of this.

IMG_7336

And I’m persuaded to leave my house.

IMG_7346

Which means we have to get dressed. Bummer.

IMG_7358

We get to playdate early.

IMG_7360

But that soon changes.

IMG_7363IMG_7364

Back home again, Ella naps and Miles and I rock the back carry.

IMG_7369

IMG_7371

Taking advantage of the back-happy baby, I make some bread for dinner.

Post nap nursing

Girlie wakes up needing a little special snuggle time.

Bounce bounce

While Miles discovers if he thrashes his legs wildly, he can make his seat bounce.

IMG_7379

The bread rises for the second time in the warm dishwasher.

Making sure it tasted right

Making certain the cookie dough tastes right.

Daddy Time

Daddy comes home from his second day at the new job (after being laid off for two months) and entertains the kiddos while I finish up the soup. I ❤ the fact he gets home at 4pm!

IMG_7386

We have homemade “Cream” of Broccoli soup (no dairy, used raw cashews to add creaminess) with the Rosemary Bread. YUM.

Kisses Goodnight

After dinner clean up, we pucker up and exchange kisses goodnight!

A Day In My Life

2 Oct

IMG_6129

Good morning, world.

IMG_6130 IMG_6131

Those 5 precious minutes in the bathroom? They turned out to be my only moments of peace the entire day.

IMG_6132 IMG_6133

I work some magic in the kitchen.

IMG_6134

I decide to tempt fate and give some decaf coffee a try.

IMG_6138

Where Miles has been this entire time.

IMG_6145

Naked girl wants to be like Mama and wash dishes.

IMG_6148

I take advantage of her distraction and vacuum.

IMG_6158

mmmm sweet nectar of life.

IMG_6160

Shoot my mom off an email after some internet sleuthing.

IMG_6162

Ella loves the illustrations in this book. So do I. Love makes you real.

IMG_6167

We head out for a walk.

IMG_6169

He sleeps the whole way.

IMG_6170

No clue what she’s doing here, but she giggles 3 whole blocks like this.

IMG_6172

Our destination.

IMG_6183

Noming a shared muffin and feeling like a big girl with a special water cup.

IMG_6187

She blows off some steam while I recover from the mile walk. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as it was a few weeks ago.

IMG_6188

Sadly, Emo’s is now closed for the season. Someone is renting the lot to sell pumpkins, though.

IMG_6189

This never fails to make me giggle.

IMG_6190

Autumn has arrived! Our walk home is so pretty.

IMG_6193

While the little girl naps, I get applesauce started and water boiling for my lunch.

IMG_6201

IMG_6202

Alas, nap time did not last nearly long enough, so we share some quiet time together on the couch.

IMG_6204

IMG_6207

IMG_6208

Cookie baking time!

IMG_6212

Little fingers help peel garlic for the soup.

IMG_6220

While the soup simmers, I update my blog.

IMG_6221

He stays parked outside my house just long enough to concern me. The moment I snapped this picture, he drove off.

IMG_6223

Maybe he was concerned for the little man’s safety. I swear she’s going to kill him with her love.

IMG_6225

The husband arrives and rescues me like the hero he is. Hooray!

IMG_6226

I leave him to fend for himself while I hop in the shower for 15 blissful minutes.

IMG_6228

I watch some TV at hulu.com in bed while Aaron puts Ella down for bed because I’m suddenly feeling horrible. Turns out I have a fever and end up going to sleep before 8pm. Thankfully Miles cooperated and we were both out like lights.

A DITL

23 Jul

A DITL is a Day In The Life presented in pictures and captions. I thought it was a neat idea, so here’s my DITL from yesterday. Just as a warning, this is NOT dialup friendly. 🙂

IMG_5704

I still don’t understand why there is a “good” in front of “morning”.

IMG_5714

Showering to feel human and a bit disgruntled that the towel doesn’t fit all the way around anymore.

IMG_5722

Feeling a bit better but still skeptical about the day.

IMG_5706

Life gets better when I see that the husband is cooking breakfast!

IMG_5727

Insert about 45 minutes of rush rush rush while we get ready to head out the door to my midwife appointment! Ella loves going to see Miss Sherry!

IMG_5731

I, on the other hand, do not love all the construction we must endure to see Sherry!

IMG_5732

My head is causing a lot of pain and we manage to get to the office with enough time to stop for caffeine.

IMG_5733

It may not be gourmet, hand crafted specialty coffee but it meets the need for caffeine and is within budget!

IMG_5735

Ah, the things you learn as a mother. Turning the AC on high cools down hashbrowns, french fries, and chicken nuggets very quickly.

IMG_5736

She certainly appreciates the speed at which her hashbrown cooled down!

IMG_5737

We spend some time in the parking lot while Ella finishes her snack, while giggling over the discovery that she can see me in the flip down mirror.

IMG_5741

At the office, Ella insists on helping by holding the urine catch cup and coaching me while I attempt to fill it.

IMG_5740

Not looking too bad for 36 weeks and change!

IMG_5744

We spend some time wiggling toes and coloring.

IMG_5745

My beloved midwife, Sherry. She caught Ella and was such an amazing support and encouragement during my birth. I couldn’t have done it without her and I can’t wait to do it again!!!

IMG_5747

After my appointment, we play at the park for a while. Ella’s a bit unsure about all the big kids.

IMG_5750 IMG_5752

IMG_5753

We get home and while eating lunch, I catch up on my blog reader.

IMG_5758

Reading books before nap.

IMG_5761

After she’s asleep, I change into some amazingly attractive clothing!

IMG_5763

And prepare to make a mess.

IMG_5764

IMG_5775

2 hours later, 24 gerber prefolds (that are useless as diapers) are turned into sort of interesting burp rags.

IMG_5766

While cleaning up, I manage a truly brilliant move and spray myself in the face with dye laden back splash. Good times to be had!

IMG_5779 IMG_5783

I finish just in time for Ella to get up from her nap and she enjoys some promised Elmo time while I eat something and enjoy some brain candy.

IMG_5785

My reading is interrupted by a giggling girl child wanting me to nurse her baby.

IMG_5787

After baby doll’s tummy is full, I take these items…

IMG_5790

And turn them into a YUMMY fruit salad with a fantastic assistant chef.

IMG_5723

After dinner, Ella tries to convince me that she can go to bed completely naked. We compromise on just a diaper.

IMG_5792

After helping Ella go to sleep, I come out and find Aaron getting his news and political fill. We spend some time discussing his recent reads.

IMG_5809

Before I know it, it’s time for bed and I finish out the day in the same room I began it.

Good night!
